Meet the Team

Faisal Sani

Faisal is originally from Nigeria and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester in 2021. He has always been fascinated by how technology can transform learning. With Mathstery, he’s on a mission to push the limits of math mastery, ensuring that every student, no matter where they start, reaches their full potential. For Faisal, math doesn’t have to be frustrating—it can be exciting, rewarding, and even fun!

He currently teaches math at Surad Academy in Faribault, Minnesota. His two years of teaching experience have shown him that every student can master math—with the right approach. This is why he created Mathstery—to take learning beyond memorization and ensure students truly understand and apply math with confidence.

Jonathan Starr

Jonathan is the founder and CEO of Nomizo. In 2009, Jonathan left a lucrative finance career, moved to Somaliland, an unrecognized country that had broken away from Somalia, and opened a new school with a 9th grade class. When that class graduated they received the 1st scholarships from Somalia or Somaliland to US universities in 3 decades. After a dozen years, hundreds of students matriculating to prestigious institutions globally, including 7 Ivy League universities, and the launching of several new schools. Abaarso’s success has been covered by Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes, MSBNC’s Morning Joe, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, CNN, CBC’s The Current, and BBC. Jonathan has spoken at The World Bank, The Nantucket Project, and several school campuses in the US.
